Paying for the game may seem a little counter-intuitive given its free-to-play nature, but you do get a hell of a lot of items, including the Mighty Boar, the Stoic Mask of the High Plains and the Girth of the Swordmaster. You also get to smugly gloat to your friends that you’re playing Valve’s eagerly-awaited take on the DOTA sub-genre.
Valve have been pretty cloak-and-dagger about the game’s release – it’s pretty much out, but still in beta. “We don’t really think of Dota 2 as a beta, but we also aren’t ready for everyone to show up and start playing just yet”, they said.
