Do you like the Gothic series? Well, Elex is the latest RPG from the people who created it. And while it is a fantasy game like the Gothic series, Elex also mixes in science fiction – so you can expect laser-based weapons and mutated creatures jumping out at you. Interested? You should be.
It takes place in a world where a war is raging on over a precious resource that grants people magical powers. However, as with all good things, it is not without its negative effects. Those who draw from that magical power are steadily turned into indifferent, cold-hearted creatures. “You decide if emotions and humaneness or cold synthetic logic will rule the world of Magalan,” reads the game’s description.
As to how it plays, well, it’s an RPG – so, yes, there quests, but they are interconnected so that it feels like the world and the people within it react to what you do, and aren’t just following an easily-broken script. There is also a lot of exploration to be had, not just because Elex features a seamless open world, but also due to the fact that you get a jetpack to zip around with. Swish.
