Are esports sports? Yes they are. This recurring, pointless question is hopefully about to be put to bed forever, as the Paris Olympic bid committee are considering adding videogames to the Summer Olympics in 2024.

The representatives told the Associated Press, via ESPN, that talks with esports representatives and the International Olympic Committee had already begun.

Tony Estanguet, co-president of the Paris Olympic bid committee, believes that the Olympics need esports to retain their relevance.

“We have to look at it because we can’t say, ‘It’s not us. It’s not about Olympics,'” Estanguet said. “The youth, yes they are interested in esport and this kind of thing. Let’s look at it. Let’s meet them. Let’s try if we can find some bridges.

“I don’t want to say ‘no’ from the beginning. I think it’s interesting to interact with the IOC, with them, the esports family, to better understand what the process is and why it is such a success.”

The official list of sports will be announced at the 2020 Toyko Games.
