Euro Truck Simulator 2 multiplayer mod shifts up a gear, trailer is delivered

It’s almost impossible to quite explain why Euro Truck Simulator 2 is brilliant. It’s got all the hallmarks of a bland, generic sim, yet is one of the most compelling driving/management games of recent years. Whilst driving down the rainswept M6 though, a French 80s pop station blaring out your radio, you could be caught thinking “Man, I wish I’d got a friend driving in the next lane, talking over CB with codenames like ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Broadsword’.”

Turns out that fantasy isn’t so far away. A team of modders have been working on a Euro Truck multiplayer mod, and the first results of their efforts can be seen in this trailer.

Yes, it’s four trucks driving at respectable speed down a motorway, doing nothing of much interest at all. But those are three real drivers (even if there’s no actual driver model in the seat), actually overtaking each other in real time. Imagine the fun you could have, working as a convoy to get that all-important lumber order from Oxford down to Amsterdam. The mod team explain the multiplayer as allowing players to "participate in convoys with people from all over the world on our Global Servers! Make new friends as you venture around Europe ensuring that you stick to the time limits or your company might get a fine! Trucking could never be more real with the use of a CB Radio to communicate with the others around you, however don't forget mistakes can cost you! Also within ETS2MP's global servers there will be extra custom maps available for you to drive too such as the 'Meeting Point' created especially for special events."

What thrills! And if I could have this much fun in Euro Truck on my own, imagine the carnage I could create if someone else was trying to share the road with me. To keep up to date with the Euro Truck Simulator 2 multiplayer mod, keep your eyes on ModDB and the ETS2MP website
