You can’t play Far Cry 5’s co-op locally

Far Cry 5

It’s great to hear that Far Cry 5 is going to be available to play through, in its entirety, in co-op. Liberating Hope County of its cult-like leaders is best done with a buddy, of course, but you shouldn’t be setting up bringing your mate around for it just yet: it’s only available online, not locally.

In a statement to Polygon, a Ubisoft representative gave a few extra details on the game, which confirms that you’ll have to be playing over the internet to get to Far Cry 5’s co-op content.

On top of that, there’s some mildly good news regarding the game’s free PS4 bonus content. While those playing the game on PS4 will be able to get some mystery free things just for playing on the console, PC players will have access to it via the medium of Uplay Units. You’ll be forgiven for not knowing what those are – they’re Uplay’s currency that you can earn through completing challenges in certain games.

If you’ve already racked some up from achievements in other Ubisoft games, you should be able to unlock Far Cry 5’s extra content as soon as it unlocks. If not, you can hopefully complete a few achievements and get enough Units yourself. While that’s an extra hoop to jump through, at least we’re still getting the content, and can do so for free.

It hasn’t been announced if players on PC will be able to unlock it at the same time as PS4, though, so it’s possible there will be some time to wait before that. If so, we’ll update this post.
