Deus Ex: Human Revolution voice actor lost Far Cry 3 lead because “Jensen is so popular”

Elias Toufexis

I’ve lost a lot of jobs in my time but never because I was too well known for my other work. Because I set fire to oven, yes, because I was the voice actor of Adam Jensen, no.

But that’s apparently exactly what happened to Elias Toufexis.

“In fact, I shouldn’t say this, but there’s a game called Far Cry 3, which I’m sure you guys know, where I had played Jason Brody,” Toufexis told the audience at MCM Comic Con in London. “I played him for two years, did the voice and when Deus Ex came out they replaced me because they were nervous that… ‘we don’t want people playing this game and thinking of another game.’”

At least he didn’t lose his job because he didn’t know how to measure out spirits and was caught serving doubles to thirteen-year-olds (another of mine. In my defence, they had beards).

“It’s justifiable,” Toufexis continued, “it’s understandable, but my normal voice is what I used for that character too. So now it’s like I’m losing work because Jensen is so popular.”

Justifiable, sure, like losing my job at PCGamesN because I’d lied about why I’d lost my previous jobs was justifiable.
