FIFA 18’s ICON stories lets you play as history’s best at the peaks of their careers

FIFA 18

EA have announced that FIFA 18 will allow you to unlock up to three unique variations of brilliant players from throughout football history. The ICON lineup will join FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) when the game releases at the end of September.

FUT ICON Stories brings some of the best players in the world back to the game, highlighting key moments in their careers. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho’s stories both document their 2002 World Cup winning campaign, similar to Diego Maradonna’s story, who captained Argentina to victory in 1986. Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry, and Pele, among others also appear in the lineup.

Each iconic player has three separate highlight years, and their stats and appearance change with each variation. In 2002, Ronaldo was at the peak of his career, but was sporting a bit of a dodgy hairdo which is reflected in his in-game avatar. The stats differences are fairly minimal, but EA hope it will allow players greater freedom “to build the squad of their dreams.”

A few other features coming to FIFA 18 were also announced yesterday. There are some pre-order bonuses, including a five match loan of Ronaldo Nazário, and Squad Battles, which will allow you to take on the FUT squads of current footballers as well as pro FIFA players.
