FIFA 18’s story mode, The Journey, lets you customise Alex Hunter

FIFA 18 The Journey

Update June 11, 2017: Some new details have released for FIFA 18, including some new info for The Journey: Hunter Returns, in which players will take the titular football player through the next milestone in his superstar career.

One of the biggest changes is how you can customise Hunter, changing his sportswear, tattoos, and hairstyles. Presumably this will lead to players competing to make him look as ridiculous as possible.

Hit up the PCGN homepage for more E3 goodness.

As for the mechanics of the game itself, there will be signature styles for famous players that more closely mimic their real-world counterparts. EA keep saying FIFA 18 is ‘fuelled by Ronaldo’, and that’s because they’ve captured his movement, right down to his gait. Presumably he dives a lot.

Dribbling has also been overhauled so players can make more minor tweaks to their movement as they enter into 1v1 battles.

Original Story June 10, 2017: FIFA 18 will feature a story mode like last year’s iteration, this time called The Journey: Hunter Returns. As the name suggests, it sees the return of Alex Hunter as the protagonist.

Judging by the trailer, it’ll be about Hunter switching clubs, and all the drama and choice that surrounds that.

It’ll be interesting to see how the game deals with that, since the first story mode was all about rising through the ranks, from an unknown to full-on stardom. This time, Hunter’s name is already on everyone’s lips, so the drama will have to come from somewhere else.

FIFA 18 will release on September 29, though pre-orders of the Ronaldo Edition on Origin will get three days Early Access.
