I’ve checked, double checked and triple checked the date – it’s not April 1st, but Square Enix sure did miss a golden opportunity here. To demonstrate the versatility of the engine behind Final Fantasy XIV, the developers have created a special trailer, reimagining the MMO as a fighting game.
And before you begin to think this is an upcoming release, regretfully, it’s just for show – but it’s damn cool nevertheless.
It had me convinced until the end of the trailer painfully stated that its implementation was “not planned”. Would you like to see Square Enix explore additional ways to create games from the Final Fantasy universe? Maybe an FPS?
