Epic Games is reactivating falsely banned Fortnite accounts and giving 2,000 free V-Bucks to those affected as an apology. Those players whose accounts have been wrongly banned will receive a message from Epic on log-in that reads: “We incorrectly banned your account. We’re sorry and will be granting V-Bucks to your account to compensate for the error.”
These banned accounts have been caught in the crossfire in Epic’s crackdown on cheaters and players who use illegal software. The company has taken several steps toward making Fortnite fair for all its players. Just last month, Epic announced that it had bought anti-cheat software maker Kamu to protect its players.
Epic’s apology can be seen on a reddit thread, where u/windtcw has posted a screenshot of the message. Many users in the thread, however, highlight that their own apparently falsely banned accounts have still not been restored.
Many players express their frustration about having their account disabled without explanation – aside from a notice that their account was involved in “suspicious activity.”
Epic’s virtual currency can be bought with real money. Fortnite V-Bucks are sold in specific quantities – 2,500 V-Bucks costs £19.99/$24.99, so 2,000 V-Bucks is not to be sniffed at. V-Bucks can be spent on in-game character accessories as well as Fortnite Season 5 Battle Passes, a tiered system which unlocks challenges.
