Watch 64 floppy drives play the Game of Thrones theme

Listen to the relaxing sound of 64 floppy disk drives recreating the Game of Thrones Theme by Ramin Dwajadi

Floppy disk

There are only a few days to go before David Benioff and D.B Weiss start brutally killing off all of our favourite characters in Game of Thrones. But before all that HBO-sanctioned slaughter kicks off, would you like to listen to the relaxing sound of 64 floppy disk drives recreating the Game of Thrones Theme by Ramin Djawadi? Sure you do.

Youtuber Paweł Zadrożniak has rigged together a beautifully beige rig of yellowing floppy disk drives, old scanners, hard drives, and other vintage gear that he calls The Floppotron – also commonly known as the computer hardware orchestra. It’s even complimented by its own smoke machine… or at least I think that billowing smoke was intentional.

All in all the orchestra is made up of 64 floppy drives, eight hard drives, two scanners, and a whole heap of various controllers to bring it all together and create a beautiful, throwback symphony. Zadrożniak’s latest creation is the Game of Thrones theme by Ramin Djawadi, just in time for the Game of Thrones season eight premier on April 14.

Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, the computer hardware orchestra.

It’s quite a sight to behold, and since Zadrożniak has been expertly programming these harmonious creations for years now, there’s one hell of a back catalogue for your continued viewing pleasure, too.
