Guild Wars 2 Super Adventure Box retro platformer Rytlock’s Critter Rampage released. Kicking rabbits harder than you’d expect

I don’t know a great deal about kicking cute animals, something but not lots, but I didn’t expect it to be as difficult as Rytlock’s Critter Rampage portrays it. In the space of two minutes I’ve been killed by a hopping bunny, a squat tortoise, and a spitting snake.

And I was playing on the easy mode, too.

As part of Guild Wars 2’s recent Super Adventure Box April Fools shenanigans ArenaNet released a trailer for their short-termed 8-bit world, a video that looked for all intents and purposes to have fallen out of a timehole to the 80s.

For a brief moment you can see the boy playing on a side-scrolling platformer, that would be Rytlock’s Critter Rampage, a game ArenaNet’s cinematics team lead Matthew Oswald created specifically for the video.

Now you too can play it and be killed by it many times over.

The game features two difficulty modes and both of them are ridiculously difficult. It shows something of my abilities as a gamer that I couldn’t complete the first level and rage quit after being killed by the same turtle five times in a row (Pro tip: it’s a bastard who should have been made into soup along with the rest of its family).
