Guild Wars 2 tops the all-formats charts in 10 European countries

We knew Guild Wars 2 was popular, it’s been struggling with server load since launch – to the point that ArenaNet stopped selling the game as an attempt to ease the number of people piling into the game – but the news that it’s topping the all-format charts in ten separate countries is a big “Winner!” shout for PC gaming.

The news was announced by ArenaNet through the ancient art of press releasing:

“Guild Wars 2 now stands at number one in the official All Formats charts of the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium – all the major territories within Europe.

“Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling”, said Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. “It also impresses upon us the responsibility we have to our players and explains why we’ve taken steps recently to constrain sales of Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality of service. Of course, we hope to remedy this in the near future.”

The game’s been recieving some pretty great reviews:
“Easily the new benchmark for MMOs” (Empire), “redefines the MMORPG genre” (Eurogamer.es). Our own verbose Tim Edwards said “It’s dead good.”
