Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, a free-to-play ARPG set in 19th century feudal Japan (though with slightly more monsters), has entered open beta. Meaning you can go and play it right now.

More details after the break.

Over the weekend we covered the Kickstarter that Spicy Horse, makers of Akaneiro, currently have running. Despite the game being finished and, as I said up top, now available to play and pay for, Spicy Horse are trying to raise $200,000 to fund development of further features for the game. Things like multiplayer co-op and expanding the game world.

These are features they already planned to develop with money raised fromAkaneiro. The Kickstarter is their way of getting those fundsfaster.

It’s certainly an interesting looking game, sort of like Torchlight through the filter of Okami. But, with the game essentially released, I can see Spicy Horse struggling to raise the funds from a Kickstarter. After all, the game is finished and playable for free, so there are other games to pledge on.

Still, you should check out the project.
