Maia test video shows off game engine, dripping noises, intimidating drone

I’m actually a bit scared now. When I wrote this extensive preview and interview last week, I thought Maia was going to be something of a chirpy, cheeky and darkly comic vision of interplanetary colonisation. Now a rather sinister video has surfaced, showing an early build of the game engine. It’s all about pitch-black underground caverns thick with some sort of steam or fog, set to some not-so-comforting ambient industrial noise.

The video also demonstrates some of the game’s lighting and it’s retro-future style. And by retro-future, I mean the space age as it was conceived in the 1970s, but with a lot less disco.

It’s all a little bit ominous, isn’t it?
