Kerbal Space Program

Imagine the announcer from the opening credits to The Thunderbirds has just said SIX in that declamatory way he had. For we’re less than a week away from the official launch of Kerbal Space Program – one of the best indie games on PC.

Kerbal Space Program will hit 1.0 on April 27th – after years of open development in alpha and beta.

The first public version of the game was released in the summer of 2011 – and for the past two years Kerbal has been available via Steam Early Access. It’s become one of the store’s great success stories.

Squad last night released a preview video of what’s to come – though it doesn’t exactly show the breadth and scope of the game:

In his Kerbal Space Program early access review, our Steve called the game a “complex, detailed and complete space simulation sandbox, the open-ended challenge of which delivers its own huge rewards”. At the time it was mostly directionless, rewarding the “ambitious, Lego-brained space farer”, and it still does that – but it’s since also become NASA Tycoon and gained an approachable mission structure via the First Contract patch.

Steve will return to Kerbal for an updated review over the next few days. How long have you been mounting rescue missions to save little green men?
