League of Legends patch 7.14: Kayn, Rhaast, and the duality of man

League of Legends patch 7.14

League of Legends’ next big content patch is 7.14, introducing Kayn and Rhaast, as well as a host of balance and bug fixes. Singed’s mini-rework might actually make it to live this time, and Udyr’s got something of similar size. Have a look below for all the information we’ve got, straight from the PBE.

Want in? You’ll need the best League of Legends champions.

Update July 11, 2017: release date confirmed, and we’ve also put in the new dual login screens and a teaser video for Kayn. As a bonus, there’s a quick, oddly-timed peek at some skins that were almost certainly intended for patch 7.15.

LoL Patch 7.14 Release Date And Downtime

Servers will go down to apply patch 7.14 on July 12 – it’ll happen at 03:00 Pacific in NA, 05:00 BST in EU West, and 03:00 CEST in EU Nordic and East.

LoL Patch 7.14 New Champion: Kayn

LoL patch 7.14 Kayn abilities

Kayn and his extra-mean scythe Rhaast are joining the Rift in patch 7.14. They’re all about ganking enemy heroes and absorbing their souls. Doing so charges up a permanent decision over which half of the character is dominating – either the Shadow Assassin Kayn or his Darkin scythe Rhaast. This is governed by which type of enemy you’re killing, but the main point is you’ll want to do a LOT of killing.

Stats:

  • Health: 585
  • Health growth: 85
  • Movement speed: 340
  • Attack range: 175
  • Base AD: 60
  • AD growth: 2.8
  • Attack speed: 0.669
  • Attack speed growth: 2.7
  • Base armor: 29
  • Armor growth: 3.3
  • MR: 32.1
  • MR growth: 1.25
  • Base HP regen: 1.6
  • HP regen growth: 0.15

The Darkin Scythe (Passive)

  • Kayn wields an ancient weapon and fights Rhaast, the darkin within it, for control. One will win, the other will die. The Darkin Rhaast thrives on fighting melee enemies, while hunting vulnerable ranged enemies strengthens Kayn, the Shadow Assassin.
  • Once you kill enough targets, you can switch to that form (permanently). Alternatively, you can wait 4 minutes and switch to the other form (permanently).
  • Depending on form, each ability has various special effects. None of them apply until a form is chosen, just the base version of the skill.
  • His passive also changes effect:
    • Darkin: Heal for [25% + 1% per level] of spell damage dealt to champions.
    • Shadow Assassin: For the first three seconds in champion combat, deal [10% + 1.9% per level] of all damage dealt to champions as bonus magic damage.
      • Becomes available again after 8 seconds out of combat with champions.
      • Based off post-mitigation physical damage.

Reaping Slash (Q)

  • Mana cost: 50
  • Cooldown: 7/6.5/6/5.5/5 seconds
  • Kayn dashes forward to strike nearby enemies. Both dash and strike deal 55/75/95/115/135 (+65% bonus AD) physical damage.
  • Deals 55 bonus physical damage to monsters.
  • Darkin:
    • Both dash and strike deal 50% Total AD physical damage + [5% + (4% per 100 bonus AD)] of the target’s maximum health (max 200 vs monsters).

Blade’s Reach (W)

  • Mana cost: 60/65/70/75/80
  • Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9 seconds
  • Kayn deals 80/125/170/215/260 (+120% bonus AD) physical damage and slows enemies hit by 60%, decaying over the next 1.5 seconds.
  • Shadow Assassin:
    • Gain 200 extra range and create a Living Shadow, which casts Blade’s Reach, meaning Kayn can move during.
  • Darkin:
    • Enemies hit are knocked up for 1 second

Shadow Step (E)

  • Mana cost: 90
  • Cooldown: 21/19/17/15/13 seconds
  • Kayn gains 40% movement speed and the ability to walk through terrain for 1.5 seconds. When he first enters terrain, he is healed for 100/115/130/145/160 (+40% bonus AD) and the duration of this effect is extended to 5 seconds.
    • Maximum duration is 1.5 seconds while in combat. Immobilization will end the effect.
  • Shadow Assassin:
    • While in terrain, Kayn gains slow immunity and his movement speed bonus is increased to 70%.

Umbral Trespass (R)

  • Mana cost: 100
  • Cooldown: 120/100/80 seconds
  • Kayn infests an enemy champion he has recently damaged, becoming untargetable for up to 2.5 seconds. Reactivate to end this effect early. When Umbral Trespass ends, the target takes 150/250/350 (+110% Bonus AD) physical damage.
  • Shadow Assassin:
    • Gains 200 range and refresh passive on exit.
  • Darkin:
    • The target takes [10% + (13% per 100 bonus AD)]% of their maximum health as physical damage and Rhaast heals for 70% of his target’s maximum health.

Here’s what all that looks like in one package:

And a longer one from SkinSpotlights:

While we’re here, some unique interactions and dialogue for the edgiest boy:

If you like your lore, here’s his sinister teaser video:

And finally, a short bio:

“A peerless practitioner of lethal shadow magic, Shieda Kayn battles to achieve his true destiny—to one day lead the Order of the Shadow into a new era of Ionian supremacy. He audaciously wields the sentient darkin weapon Rhaast, undeterred by its creeping corruption of his body and mind. There are only two possible outcomes: either Kayn bends the weapon to his will… or the malevolent blade consumes him completely, paving the way for the destruction of all Runeterra.”

Have a look at some longer stories over on the universe page, including a full short story as well as a longer bio. There’s also some rather nice art, including this:

Patch 7.14 Summoner Spell Changes

Smitebuffed

  • Can now be used on medium monsters (Krug now classified as medium)

LoL Patch 7.14 New Skins

Second most important: cosmetics. Lovely, gorgeous cosmetics. Bit more of a visual medium this, so we’ve grabbed the best videos of each skin, as well as a lovely pic or two. Some are relatively simple changes, while others are total reworks of every part of the champion outside the gameplay numbers – new VO, new animations, new particles and the rest. It’s generally defined by how much they cost, so we’ve detailed that as well.

Soulhunter Kayn

Soulhunter Kayn in-game

1350 RP.Details from Riot.

Here’s his splash:

Soulhunter Kayn splash art

Additionally, the SKT skins added in 7.13 (and due for release soon) got their promised extra sound effects.

Omega Squad

Bit of an odd one, this – consider it a bonus. A recent player survey sent out by Riot featured an unlisted teaser video for new Twitch, Tristana, Fizz, and Veigar skins, plus new Chroma:

On Reddit, Hisrantsk says each will be 1350RP, and has links to their splash art. These are pretty clearly leaks for content due in the next patch, so we’ll say no more here.

LoL Patch 7.14 Login Screen

In a neat change for patch 7.14, there aretwologin screens – one for Kayn’s Assassin form and one for his Rhaast form. They’ll be played randomly each time you log in, say Riot. The Rhaast one, incidentally, is metal as all Hell and we love it and so do you.

LoL Patch 7.14 notes

Lead designer Meddler was on the forumsto explain the Diana and Garen changes. He also mentions that patch 7.15 will see Warded Ping. Don’t expect as many of context posts this cycle (which also has less development time in total) due to the July 4 celebrations.

That’s League of Legends patch 7.14. We’ll update as and when we get more info, or we’ll see you for patch 7.15 in the very near future. Let us know below if there’s any vital info we missed!
