The all-Korean final at the Staples Center was also the first to go to five games as Samsung mounted a spirited comeback after going 2-0 down early on in the series, however they were unable to stop the almost inevitable hat-trick for SKT.
Mid-laner Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok and jungler Bae ‘bengi’ Seong-ung are the only two players to have been on the team for each Worlds victory, beginning with their first win in 2013 with the Season 3 World Championship.
Samsung, to their credit, put up a good fight after the initial two losses. In the third game they forced the returning champions to a 71-minute marathon, the longest game of this year’s Worlds, with a huge dragon steal late into the match.
