We’ve picked five of the bestest, lightest gaming mice on the market to see which one is the king of the feather-mice, and which will make you a super-pro gamer overnight. Obviously none of the mice featured here promise to do that, but that’s what we’re all aiming for, right?
Glorious Model O and Model O-
With the release of the Model O, and subsequent Model O-, the PC gaming community has hailed this mouse as one of the best lightweight mice on the market. Weighing in at just 67g and 58g respectively, the Model O-series has a max DPI setting of 12,000, a Pixart 3360 sensor, as well as two side buttons. That optical sensor, featured on both products, is the crown jewel.
Aside from the honeycomb design also found in the Cooler Master MM710, the Model O series of gaming mice also includes RGB lighting. Additionally, this is one of the few mice showcased on this list that has an ambidextrous design, making this a mouse suitable for lefty and righty gamers alike. Additionally, one of the more distinct features found in both O-series rodens is the ‘Ascended Cord,’ a lightweight cable that gives both products the feeling of being a wireless mouse by not dragging on the desktop.
Only major flags worth noting is the price, the Model O will set you back $60, although you could get the even-lighter Model O-. It’s $10 less and is a smaller size, which may not be ideal for gamers with big hands.
Cooler Master MM710
A recurring theme with a few lightweight gaming mice is they have a lot of holes in them; commonly referred to as the ‘honeycomb design.’ The Cooler Master MM710 is one such mouse that has this design making it stand out from some of its competitors in the wider gaming mouse scene.
While lightweight, the MM710 still serves as an entry-level gaming mouse of sorts and sits at $50 and features a simplistic design with a total of six buttons available on the device. Making it a pick up and play mouse, however, the limited customization options will hinder how much you can deck out your overall gaming experience. On the other hand, if you are a novice PC gamer, you most likely could care less about the specific extra features in a mouse.
One of the most significant issues with the MM710 that is noticeable at first glance, however, is the overall size of the mouse. At 64mm wide and 117mm long, even an individual with average size hands, the MM710 will make you feel like a giant. If you can overlook the design, the MM710 is an extremely competent mouse with high-performance thanks to the PixArt PMW 3389 sensor and a DPI of up to 16,000.
Razer Viper
One of the more multidimensional gaming mice on the market, the Razer Viper is small, swift, and provides a high-end performance perfect for competitive gamers. The overall design was explicitly designed to be played by competitive players and esports pros. Weighing in at 69g, this lightweight mouse is still a mighty force to be reckoned with thanks to its optical switches, providing a response time of 0.2 milliseconds and a genuine accuracy thanks to its 16,000 DPI sensor.
Measuring in at 127 x 66 x 38mm, the mouse is one of the more compact mice on the market, which is useful if you have limited space on your desk, but bad if you have sizeable hams. Ideally, this mouse is best designed for smaller-hand gamers, which is a shame as this mouse gives FPS players a much needed competitive edge against their opponents.
The Razer Viper also has opto-mechanical switches, which provide a fast-paced gaming experience. Thankfully it’s already built-in and ready to go, so you will not have to spend countless hours to tweak the settings to suit your speedy gaming needs.
Logitech G Pro Wireless
One of the many options in the Pro series, the G Pro Wireless mouse, maintains the level of consistency found in this series of gaming mice. Although this mouse is heavier compared to others weighing at 80 grams, this Logitech G Pro Wireless leverages its cordless free mobility. The battery means you have to expect some extra weight, after all.
The Logitech G Pro Wireless features two side buttons on each side of the mouse and eight programmable buttons with a DPI level of 16,000. Additionally, the G Pro Wireless also contains an optical sensor and full RGB lighting support. As far as battery life goes, gamers will be relieved to know the product has an impressive battery life. When the mouse is fully charged, players can game for approximately 49 hours with the lights on or 63 hours without the RGB lighting. Of course, you can also keep the charging cable on, and you’ll still be able to play, but it’s the wireless capability that makes this lightweight mouse stand out from the rest.
Unfortunately, the G Pro Wireless is the most expensive of the bunch and will set you back up to $150. The overall design is rather more bland compared to the rest on the list, and that restrained style will either endear you to it or turn you off.
SteelSeries Rival 310
The Rival 310 by SteelSeries is a mid-priced mouse that is ready to perform. With a straight-forward and crisp design, the Rival 310 is stylish but humble and is equipped with two main buttons in addition to the standard mouse features, along with a DPI switch.
When it comes to the straight-forward specifications, the Rival 310 features an optical sensor with accuracy up to 12,000DPI with its acceleration speeds reaching over 350 inches-per-second. So, if you are an FPS gamer this mouse will consistently deliver a high-end, twitch-capable experience, with minimal inaccuracies during the product’s performance.
However, there are a few gripes worth pointing out with the Rival 310. The DPI setting has no visible indicator on which setting is selected. Now, this is most likely not a problem for someone that continually keeps it on one configuration. But, the other issue worth flagging, is the RGB lighting, most gaming mice allow you to go into customizing the colors depending on what’s going on in a specific game, the Rival 310 is purely cosmetic and does not affect anything you may be doing in a particular game.
What is the bestest, lightest gaming mouse?
Based on price, performance, and overall features, the Glorious Model O and Model O- are by far the best gaming mice of the ones I’ve tested and the O-series is the one I would suggest picking up.
While its price may not be entirely justifiable to some, it is still a mid-price mouse compared to others on the list, especially compared to the super-pricey wireless Logitech rodent.
More so, the Model O and O- have the funky honeycomb design, multiple color variants to choose from, and RGB lighting. Not to mention, the mouse has an almost-wireless feel to it, thanks to the innovative cable design of the product. A majority of the best features from the other mice on the list all appear in one neat package on the Model O and O-, making it a multidimensional mouse worth the price of admission.
Aside from its fast response time, the Pixart senor in both of the products can be adjusted with the presets ranging from 400 to 12,000 DPI. Not to mention, it requires little maintenance; thanks to the honeycomb design, the holes featured on the mice offer a steady airflow for the product and one less item for you to dust and tidy up. And, y’know, makes it less sweaty over a long play sesh too…
