Performance enhancing drugs are generally considered a big no no when it comes to sports, but that doesn’t stop people. In an interview, North American Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player for Nihilum and CLG Red coach semphis has admitted that his team were taking adderall during ESL matches.
Talking to YouTube channel Launders CStrike, semphis said at 7:44 in the above video: “The ESL comms were kinda funny in my opinion, I don’t even care, we were all on adderall.”
“I don’t even give a fuck, like its pretty obvious if you listen to the comms, I don’t know people can hate it or whatever,” he added. “That’s what was so funny to me like shit comms so hectic like yea, so yea that might clear up some of the questions of why it was like that.”
Adderall is a prescription amphetamine drug that stimulates the central nervous system and affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
Whilst not all eSports tournaments have anti-drug rules, the ESL rulebook states ‘To play a match, be it online or offline, under the influence of any drugs, alcohol, or other performance enhancers is strictly prohibited, and may be punished with exclusion.’
