Oculus Rift has raised over $16m in funding; to create the “best virtual reality platform possible”

The true next generation isn’t fancy consoles, it’s virtual reality. Leading the charge is Oculus Rift, who have recently announced they’ve secured over $16m in funding. Last year, Oculus Rift managed to dazzle the video game industry by smashing its Kickstarter target to raise $2.4m. With today’s announcement we are a little closer to Oculus Rift heading to the consumer market, and into your hands.

The team behind the magical device were at this years E3, where they demoed a new 1080p prototype. Josh Augustine was over there, and he was converted to the ways of the Rift.

According to an post by IGN, Brendan Iribe the CEO of Oculus VR wasn’t quick to let his guard down.

“There are still many challenging problems to solve,” said Iribe. “But with the support of these great investment partners, and our passionate community, we will continue to hire the brightest minds and stay laser focused on delivering the very best virtual reality platform possible.”
