Orcs Must Die 3 is coming as a timed exclusive to Stadia

Orcs Must Die is getting a third proper series entry

August 19, 2020 Orcs Must Die 3 will be exclusive to Stadia – but only temporarily.

Orcs Must Die was one of the most prominent titles in the early tower defense boom, and after a dalliance with free-to-play monetisation in Unchained, developer Robot Entertainment is getting back to the proper series in Orcs Must Die 3. It’s set to launch spring 2020, and it is coming as a timed exclusive to Google Stadia, as confirmed by Robot Entertainment CEO Patrick Hudson on Reddit. No word on how long that agreement will last just yet.

Orcs Must Die 3 will feature bigger orc waves than ever before, as the developers are emphasising the scale of the battles this time around. Hundreds of monsters will rush you down at a time in the new War Scenarios, and you’ll have much bigger traps – known as War Machines – to deal with all those enemies.

It’ll feature a new story set 20 years after OMD2, and according to the official site, we’ll have a setup where “the War Mage and Sorceress have rebuilt the order and trained new young apprentices.” The official details specifically emphasise that this is a follow-up to the original two games, so it looks like we’re essentially ignoring the existence of Unchained.

Google has already announced plans to publish a handful of original indies exclusively on Stadia, but this is the first time an entry in a more recognisable series has called the streaming platform its only home – at least temporarily. Whether more join it in the future remains to be seen.
