Overwatch’s Pink Mercy event raises nearly $13 million for charity

Update, July 9: Blizzard’s charity drive with Pink Mercy has raised $12.7 million for breast cancer research.

Blizzard’s charity drive with the Pink Mercy skin came to a close some time ago, and we knew the results would be impressive, with at least $10 million dollars earned for breast cancer research. Now we know that the skin has earned $12,703,828 for the Breast Cancer Research foundation.

That number is combined with sales of the accompanying T-shirt,  but doesn’t include the $130,000 in donations earned by Overwatch streamers on Twitch in promotion of the event.

BCRF says this is the largest single-year donation from a corporate partner in the organization’s history, so I think it’s safe to say the event was a success.

The skin was available with $14.99 / £12.99 charity donation, with 100% of proceeds are going straight to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Blizzard also promised a minimum donation of $250,000 at the start of the event, though we’ve obviously blown past that number.

Blizzard thanks you – yes, you – in a quick announcement video. The company also has a gallery of fanart and cosplay in its news post.

Pink Mercy’s success may yet open the door to further direct purchase skins – especially if there’s charity involved. If those new cosmetics have half the appeal of this one, I think we can expect similar degrees of success.
