It doesn’t matter if you believe in the gods or not in Polygod, as they’re out to get you anyway – you’re the last of your species, and they want you gone. This is where the game starts, giving you a gun and a spring in your step to help you out as you battle the minions and Holy Champions of the malignant gods.
Polygod hasn’t long arrived on Steam Early Access, it’s a roguelike shooter, which means there are randomly generated levels, and if you die at any point you have to start from the first one again. But why put yourself through such trials? What – don’t you want to live forever?
The idea is to kill the gods’ many minions and Champions in order to collect their souls. Grab as many as you can and then you can exchange them for blessings at the Altars of Worship. These are powers that should help you survive a little longer. Keep going and, perhaps, by the end of the game you’ll be able to ascend to godhood. The dream.
Polygod is as simple as that. You fight for survival, for honour, and because goddamn the code that creates the levels knows how to make a challenge. There’s plenty here for you to sink your god-chomping teeth into here if you’re into twitch shooters.
