The news that Bethesda had definitively canceled Prey 2 last week was disappointing indeed, especially so for the folks who worked on it. Developers Human Head Studios are those very folk, and while they’re certainly sad to see the game officially canned, they had nothing but praise for the work that they did.
“While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to deliver our vision of the game, we remain proud of our work on the franchise” said Human Head.
For the few of you that have been out of the loop, here’s the award-winning trailer for Prey 2 back at E3 2011.
Rather spiffy right? Well Bethesda didn’t seem to think it was going to be successful. “It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it.” said Bethesda’s VP, Pete Hines. “It wasn’t up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it,”
Developers Human Head spoke today with VG247 about their role in the project, which as of recently hasn’t been much. “We can confirm that Human Head Studios has not been involved with Prey 2 for some time,” explained business development director, Tim Gerritsen.
“While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to deliver our vision of the game, we remain proud of our work on the franchise, which we feel speaks for itself, including the award-winning presentation of the game at E3 2011.
“We enjoyed working with the many talented people at Bethesda, and we wish them all the best of luck with any future plans they may have for the franchise.”
It’s nice to see Human Head Studios – excuse the pun – hold their heads up high as Prey 2 comes to a close. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.
