You might’ve forgotten by now, but it wasn’t that long ago that a Resident Evil TV show was in production. Titled Arklay, it was supposed to release back in 2015, but obviously that never happened as would-be distributor Mance Media ultimately passed on filmmaker Shawn Lebert’s project.
Don’t miss the best zombie games on PC.
But that doesn’t mean nothing came of the effort. Lebert put together a short conceptual film as a proof of concept for Arklay, and now he’s released the footage for all to see. It’s police procedural meets zombie horror with hints of corporate mystery underneath – all in all, a pretty natural extrapolation of the original game’s story, even without Chris, Jill, or STARS. You can check out the footage below.
The release seems to be tied with a newly launched website and potential ARG continuing the story. It’s doubtful this will ever end up tying back into proper Resident Evil lore, but it’s still fun to dream.
Resident Evil, of course, is no stranger to live action adaptation, with a series of action films that have remained just competent enough to stay successful, even if they don’t have a whole lot to do with the games. Maybe the added boost of a new adaptation is what the series really needs given Resident Evil 7’s disappointing sales.
