This news comes just as Psyonix announce that the Rocket League: Collector’s Edition-exclusive battle cars are now available to buy on their own, including the Tokyo-inspired Esper and Masamune, as seen above. These can be bought for $1.99 each.
It's all part of Rocket League's microtransaction strategy which, it turns out, will soon include a crate and key system for purchasable loot.
