Old School Runescape and Runescape 3 to get mobile clients with PC cross-play

Within a few months you’ll be able to play both Runescape 3 and Old School Runescape on your mobile. Cross-platform support with the desktop version will mean you can pick up right where you left off on your PC.

We reckon Runescape 3 is one of the best free games on PC.

Old School Mobile, nostalgia-tickling version based on backup code from 2007, is coming first. It’s due to enter beta later this year, with a full release coming in the winter. Runescape mobile will follow in 2018.

Developers Jagex say both versions will feature full cross-platform support and mobile-optimised UIs.

If you’d like to get involved in the closed betas, head over to the website and register your interest.

Reaction on the subreddits has been pretty universally positive – if mournful of the potentially productive hours the mobile games will kill – though some on the Old School sub are sceptical that Runescape 3’s more complex design will transfer well to mobile.
