How do you fancy playing the next car combat game from the studio that created the Carmageddon series? Not only are we giving you a chance to do that without having to spend a penny, this is an opportunity to play the game early – during its beta, which runs from April 25 to April 30. We have 2000 beta keys for ShockRods up for grabs below.
But first… what is ShockRods? Well, it doesn’t have the cow splatter and gory violence you expect from Carmageddon – let’s clear that up straight away. But it does channel the same aggression. It’s an over the top arena shooter in which you drive around and perform evasive manoeuvres in blisteringly fast cars. Imagine Quake but each player has an engine tyres rather than legs.
Each ShockRods match pits either two teams of six against each other or 12 players in free-for-all mayhem. Yes, there are weapons, but you need to pick them up from around the arena. You’ll not only find the usual range of gatling gun and rocket launchers, but sillier and just as effective tools including the balloon cannon, freeze gun, and bulldozer power-up.
Though your vehicle can be turned into scrap metal, you’ll want to make sure it looks good up until that point – that’s where the customisation options come in. Don’t worry, it’s cosmetic only, but you can choose from car type, colour, wheel, decals, and patterns. Best of all, though, is that you can choose taunt FX and sounds, just to really dig your victory into your opponents.
