Stardew Valley bug lets you spawn in any item you want whenever people say your name

stardew valley item duplication bug

Players have discovered an exceedingly strange bug in Stardew Valley, one its developer says he will not be patching out. If you name your character after one of the farming game’s item codes then whenever your name is mentioned by another character, an instance of that item will spawn into your inventory.

For other great indie games, here’s our list of the best indie games on PC.

So, for instance, if you called your character [295], everytime your name was mentioned then a twig would spawn in your inventory. If you’re looking for something a little more valuable then [72] will net you a diamond.

IGN reached out to developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone to see if he planned to patch out the bug. Barone said he has no plans to, saying “It’s not game-breaking, it’s kind of amusing, and the likelihood that someone would randomly stumble upon it is extremely low. So I feel like it’s okay to leave it, and actually kind of fun.”

If you want to play around with this exploit, you can find a list of item IDs over on Pastebin.
