Croatian studio Little Green Men Games have released a teaser trailer and some new info on their upcoming third DLC pack for Starpoint Gemini Warlords. Entitled Cycle of Warfare, they promise that this will be the largest piece of DLC they have ever produced for any of their games, greatly expanding the scale of the hybrid starship command/4X strategy game.
Like the sound of the 4X strategy stuff, but want to pass on commanding a starship? You’re a monster, but we don’t judge here. Here are the droids you’re looking for.
Cycle of Warfare will be bringing another five playable factions to the game, as well as more customization options, letting you pick and choose what to populate your universe with. While any figures coming direct from the developers are to be taken with a pinch of salt, LGM claim that Cycle of Warfare will add another hundred hours of gameplay to Warlords, assuming you’re dedicated enough to dive into every faction and scenario offered.
More personally interesting are the two new ‘challenge’ scenarios. The first offers a chance to play as an ambitious privateer instead of a major faction leader. While standard enough for the genre, it sounds compelling in its own right. The second new campaign is far more enticing – forget diplomacy and trade and play as the alien A’shriari on their quest to completely exterminate humanity, all from the comfort of their enormous, all-conquering, planet-searing mothership. An exciting prospect that sounds very different from the regular gameplay, and more than a little cathartic.
Starpoint Gemini Warlords is available on Steam, GOG and Gamersgate for £27/$35, with the two previous DLC packs – Deadly Dozen and Titans Return – priced at £4/$5 and £5/$7 respectively. Cycle of Warfare will be released on October 5th.
