If you ever played Realm of the Mad God then you’ll immediately know the appeal of Steambirds Alliance. Mad God was the first MMO shmup and it was great. Friends got together inside the game to cooperatively blast the hell out of tons of enemies with colourful explosions all around. What a time to be alive.
Steambirds Alliance is another online co-op shmup made by Spry Fox – the same studio that co-developed Realm of the Mad God. This time, however, the magical fantasy has been replaced by feathered friends in the skies. Otherwise there are a lot of similarities between the two games: an open world, deadly waves of bullets, and nasty bosses to take down.
Currently, Steambirds Alliance is in beta, with a bunch of testing weekends going on. We have 500 Steam keys that allow you to join these beta tests, one of which starts today. Grab one of the keys and you’ll be able to play every weekend until the end of May. Specifically, the beta tests open every Friday at 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 19:00 CET until Sunday at 23:59 PST (09:00 on Mondays in Europe).
If you get a beta key then make sure you tell your friends to get over here and grab one too, as you’ll be able to meet up inside the game, taking on terrible cat bosses and unlocking plane upgrades together.
