The launch trailer for Styx: Shards of Darkness is full to the brim with goblin wisecracks

Styx Launch Trailer

Ahead of its release on March 14, Cyanide Studio and Focus Home Interactive have released the launch trailer for their fantasy stealth game, Styx: Shards of Darkness. While light on gameplay, this trailer gives players a good outline of the game’s plot, in between Styx’s continuous sarcastic remarks.

Practice your skulking with these great PC stealth games.

Following on from Styx: Master of Shadows, the sequel starts off with the titular goblin taking a contract from a mysterious human officer named Helledryn. In return for stealing an ambassador’s specter, a powerful artefact which has attracted the attention of several nefarious parties, Styx will get a huge supply of Amber.

For those who aren’t fully tooled up on the lore of the first game, Amber is the source of Styx’s magical power and acts as the goblin’s drug of choice. Upon bungling the heist, Styx gets wrapped up in a growing web of intrigue and a constant stream of assassination contracts. Any business is good business I guess.

Hinting at main story beats, this trailer is constantly intercut with Styx firing off some kind of quip or sarcastic comment. He even disses Assassin’s Creed at one point, showing this game’s desire to demolish the fourth wall at every opportunity. While a pop culture reference is funny now and then, I feel Cyanide Studio may have gone overboard on styling Styx as a goblin version of Deadpool. Hopefully, the main game will be lighter on the wisecracks.

If you’re up for a life of crime, Styx: Shards of Darkness releases on Steam March 14.
