Jonathan Blow’s next game, The Witness, is out in January

The Witness – the long awaited follow up to 2008’s Braid from Jonathan Blow and his team – will finally be released in January 2016.

The news came along with a new trailer, showing off the colourful puzzle game. It looks intriguing and its saturated visual style is beyond striking, but I hope there’s a bit more to it than what looks like an increasingly complex minigame.

Obviously the narrative could make the experience totally worth it, but the trailer does make it look like a pretty standard puzzle game that takes place on a really pretty set.

I hope I’m wrong.

But to be completely honest, I would play The Witness just to walk around in that world: flashes of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker here, drippings of Proteus there and a dollop of Myst – it really is beautiful, and looks open to exploration. There’s even a boat. I love boats.

Have a look for youself.

The Witness is coming to PC on January 26, 2016.
