Total War: Warhammer II will release on September 28. Before then, a new race pack for the original game will be announced, and we’ve just learned it will in fact be a “completely reworked faction.”

Here’s everything we know about Total War: Warhammer 2 so far.

The news comes via the Total War site, where developers Creative Assembly have announced the Serpent God edition. That’s the super special edition of the new game, which comes with a range of themed goodies including a stone puzzle sphere and a bunch of teeth carvings. Sure. There’s also a less extravagant limited edition, alongside the boxed and digital standard editions. You can pre-order the Serpent God editionhere, or head to Steam for the standard editions.

The reworked faction will feature some new units “including some unique new monsters, two new Legendary Lords, each with unique skill trees, quest chains and unique starting positions.” It’ll be free for pre-orders of the sequel or if you purchase the sequel in the first week of release, though you can also buy it separately after then. It’s just like the Chaos Warriors race pack first time around.

Thanks to the game’s success, Creative Assembly’s ambitions for the Total Warhammer series have escalated since the original launched last May. Hence, there’s been some community pressure to take another pass on the original four factions, as they’re a bit plain compared to the extravagant ones that came later. That’s especially true of the Empire, so if I had to guess, they’ll be the target of the rework.

We’ll be seeing more of Total War: Warhammer II at E3 when the show floor opens tomorrow, so be sure to stop by soon for more.
