Valve is shipping Vive VR kits to developers

HTC Vive SteamVR sign up

Valve’s magical new VR headset Vive, made in conjunction with HTC, has started making its way into the hands of development studios. Valve made the announcement on the Steam Community, saying that everyone from “major movie studios [and] triple A developers to small indie teams working on their first title,” would be included in the first batch.

Valve’s Chet Faliszek detailed in the post that the Vive developer kit includes “ a headset, 2 Lighthouse base stations, 2 wireless Steam VR controllers, various cables, instructions, and everything else needed to get started.”

“This will allow developers to target the same system consumers will have in their homes later this year,” he added, which makes it sound as if Valve are determined to have VR in public hands by Christmas.

Developers who don’t receive a kit soon need not worry, as Valve will continue to ship more headsets to more developers over the spring and summer.
