Original Story July 22, 2016: Anyone who knows their Warcraft lore knows who Gul’dan is. He’s the very first orcish shaman who founded the Horde, and was a huge character in this year’s Warcraft movie. As part of their Harbinger series of animated shorts, Blizzard have shown off the earliest days of Gul’dan, back when he was a deformed, lanky orc in the Shadowmoon clan.
The Harbingers: Gul’dan short shows how Gul’dan was thrown out of the Shadowmoon clan for being weak and deformed, and his subsequent suffering in the desert lands of Draenor. But realising he can turn his suffering into strength, he returns to his old clan to wreak his revenge.
The animation is motion-comic style rather than Blizzard’s beautiful CGI, but there’s still some lovely art to behold. The short was revealed at Comic Con, currently on-going over in San Diego, and also comes accompanied by the comic Anduin: Son of the Wolf, and an audio drama.
World of Warcraft: Legion will release August 30.
