We learned earlier this month that the next iteration of World of Tanks, the 8.4 update, would bring a cavalcade of new tank destroyers and a bunch of newly updated maps but now you can actually play around with the new update. And you can do it all before the update actually launches too. This is because Wargaming.net have decided to load the update to their public test server to see what the world thinks of their work.

Below are the details of what you could be playing with and how to get involved.

First off, unfortunately, you can only play the new build if you registered a World of Tanks accountbefore 11 February. They don’t want no rookies on their server.

Next, this is what Wargaming instruct:

  1. Download thetest client installer.
  2. Make sure you pick a save location that is different to your regular World of Tanks game files. Save and run the installer. (9.2 MB)
  3. Run the new copy of the game. The launcher will download all the additional data (4.50 GB).
  4. Log in and start playing. Remember to post your feedback to thisforum thread.

Now onto the good stuff. So the new update brings a new premium tank destroyer for the Soviets, the SU-100Y; the Germans are getting three new light tanks, including thePanzer I andthe Panzer II Ausf. G; the real winners, though, are the British who are getting ten whole new tank destroyers. Ten!

There are also four more maps receiving a graphical overhaul,Steppes, Fisherman’s Bay, Ensk and Live Oak.

Plus, a newtutorial is in the worksto ease those rookies into the ways of tank warfare.

Currently, there hasn’t been announced release date so if you can’t wait till whenever that may be you best jump on the public test server.
