The Intel Extreme Masters took place in Cologne during last week’s Gamescom, with eight teams duking it out to see who’ll take home the big prize and also secure themselves a slot in the grand finals of the League of Legends Season 2 Championships, which have a prize pool of over 2 million dollars. Moscow 5 managed the feat, securing their dominance over the League of Legends competitive scene, and also protecting their IEM title, after winning it in Hanover last year.

They beat SK Gaming to take the top spot, winning in a decisive two to nil victory that cemented them as the top dogs of the League of Legends pro-scene. They went in as the favourites, and it’s not hard to see why, what with them winning almost every major League of Legends tournament in the past six months.
All top three teams, (M5, SK and CLG.eu) get to go on to the Championships, which take place on October the 13th in Los Angeles. It’s a global event, with players from all over the world coming together to see not only who is the best team, but which country has the best strategies, and the most dominance over the game.
Which makes the Intel Extreme Masters a bit of a warmup for the main event. Now we’ve just got to wait a month and a half for it to start.
