BioWare reassures SWTOR players over automatic character transfers from underpopulated servers

This is the way the universe ends: not with a bang, but with a short, deliberate snip of the creator’s garden shears. Such is the fate that awaits SWTOR’s underpopulated origin servers during BioWare’s planned server consolidation. In the inevitable panic, the developer has spoken to allay fears about where characters from pruned servers might end up.

While players can manually transfer their characters from origin servers to better populated homes, BioWare will automatically shunt the rest over to the nearest appropriate equivalent.

“Once we do automatic transfers, we will be doing everything possible in order to maintain the basics of the current ruleset as possible – PvE vs PvP, regional choice, language (for Europe),” said lead systems designer Damion Schubert in a Q&A. “So in many cases, you should have a good idea of which populations you are likely to end up with.

“Another top concern is trying to help the populations that result have a good factional balance,” he added. “We will give out a specific list once we are closer to implementation of this plan – watch for more info soon!”
