It took over three years’ work, but Galandil’s Holds mod – a Skyrim mod that adds new settlements, NPCs, lore and fills out the existing cities of Bethesda’s RPG – is finally out.
This surely deserves a place on our massive list of the best Skyrim mods.
Holds: The City Overhaul completely rebuilds Falkreath, Winterhold and Dawnstar, dotting the cities with more buildings, more NPCs, and adding a layer of history, personality and lore, giving each place a more distinct feel.
There are also a handful of new settlements scattered around the map, placed far out of the way and hidden from view so they don’t disturb the expansive wilderness of Skyrim.
“The aim of all of this is to create a more memorable and diverse experience,” saysGalandil on Nexus Mods, “making the cities actually feel like cities hopefully without ruining the natural and realistic design of the vanilla game.
“This is not a botanical garden mod, nor is it a beautification mod. Holds aims to stay as lore-friendly as possible and at the same time expand on the backgrounds and stories for its locations.”
