Blizzard release hotfix after World of Warcraft hackers kill entire cities

Comment

It’s not often that we report on mass killings. Doing so necessitates a very particular tone of compassionate severity, so I’ll thank you kindly if you can please read the rest of this post in the voice of Fiona Bruce.

An exploit this morning left every single resident of the cities Stormwind and Orgrimmar dead. The killers reportedly did not discriminate between human and NPC, and scenes of a similar nature unfolded across servers including Argent Dawn, Tarren Mill, Ragnaros, Draenor, and Twisting Nether.

Blizzard have since hotfixed the exploit, informing players that it was now safe to un-batten their respective hatches and return to the cities.

“As with any exploit, we are taking this disruptive action very seriously and conducting a thorough investigation,” said community manager Danielle Vanderlip. “If you have information relating to this incident, please email hacks@blizzard.com. We apologize for the inconvenience some of you experienced as a result of this and appreciate your understanding.”

If you were witness to the terrible scenes as they unfolded this morning, give us your account below. Still afraid to set foot in Stormwind? Try its recreation in Minecraft instead.
