Visual novel Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome breaks risque new ground on Steam

Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome

It’s hard to argue against the assertion that videogames are, to put it bluntly, horny. Sadly, many games touching on the subject of sexuality (outside of BioWare RPGs) tend to be associated with lazy sexism, offering a one-sided look at it from the male perspective.

Mangagamer’s new visual novel release, Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome, promises romantic comedy and full-frontal, entirely uncensored smut aimed at women in a possible first for Steam.

Sex in games frequently gets a bad rap. Here’s some other titles that broach the subject.

Protagonist Ema Tachibana is a tall, scruffy, socially awkward loner who finds herself caught in the spotlight when a pair of aspiring (and attractive) young fashion producers decide that she is to become their latest muse and model. No doubt wacky hijinks and anime antics will ensue, and likely end up in at least two of the lead trio naked. And yes, while Ema is encouraged to pick from one gorgeous suitor or the other, there’s the option to lay claim to both.

Of course, Valve being Valve, the Steam release of Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome has been edited to remove the most egregious naughtiness. But in a bold move, publishers Mangagamer are offering an official, free patch to reinstate the 18-rated content, on the agreement that you sign up through their site and confirm your age.

While other visual novels on Steam have done this before, ‘adult’ patches tend to come with an additional price tag attached. It’s a daring business decision, and one that, if successful, may open the floodgates for similar releases on Steam aimed at the full spectrum of genders and sexualities.

Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome is available on Steam now for £19, with a 20% launch discount at present.
