You will fight the Minotaur in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassins Creed Odyssey Minotaur

It’s pretty clear that Assassins Creed Odyssey will follow in Origins’ footsteps by including mythological elements. Where our Egyptian adventure let us tangle with the gods, Odyssey will pit us against (at least) the Minotaur.

In a stinger reminiscent of the giant snake at the end of one Origins trailer, we got an over-the-shoulder shot of a vast horned beast to wrap up Odyssey’s presentation at Ubisoft’s E3 conference. Exciting, eh? There’s a practically endless number of other mythological beasts we could be taking on next: the Chimera, the Manticore, the Hydra… maybe even a Gorgon or two.

It’s an interesting new direction for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which we’ve also learned is set in the Peloponnesian War. That means it takes place hundreds of years before Origins and, thus, before the foundation of the assassins’ order.

So it’s pretty hard to see how Odyssey will tie into the wider lore of the series. Together with its continuing depiction of mythological and fantastical ideas, it seems to be taking some even bigger steps further away from the more grounded historical adventures of the rest of the series.

And there is a very large statue of a minotaur. So you’ll be able to jump off them as well as kill them.
