Ultra ‘90s RPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar launches this October

Battle Chasers Nightwar

Following its successful Kickstarter back in the summer of 2015, the ‘90s comic Battle Chasers is set to return in videogame form later this year. Developed by Airship Syndicate and creator of the original comic Joe Madureira, Battle Chasers: Nightwar is coming to PC on October 3.

See what else is on the horizon with this list of upcoming PC games.

Combining elements of old-school 16-bit JRPGs with procedural generation and crafting, Battle Chasers: Nightwar hopes to curry favour with fans of the original comic and RPG aficionados. Containing all of the main characters from the comic, it looks to expand on the nine-issue series and hopefully open the doors for more adventures within this arcane-punk universe.

If the art-style looks familiar to you, Madureira also provided the art for the original Darksiders, with much of Airship Syndicate being made up of former Vigil Games team members. Funnily enough, THQ Nordic is set to publish Darksiders 3, which is being also made by former Vigil staff at Gunfire Games.

Having played Battle Chasers: Nightwar back at EGX Rezzed, it has one of the chunkiest RPG combat systems in recent memory. Every attack and skill has weight behind it, with enemies recoiling in pain from every hit. The golem Calibretto is a highlight, with each of his skills conveying just how much power this giant mechanical knight has at his disposal. The combination of fantastic battle animation and Madureira’s over-the-top art makes for one of the best-looking RPGs to ever come out of Kickstarter.

If you love both turn-based RPGs and ‘90s-era comics and anime, Battle Chasers: Nightwar should be right up your alley. Its Steam page is now live, with it having a 10% discount for anyone who choose to pre-purchase before October 3.
