Call of Duty: Modern Warfare made $600 million in three days

COD: Modern Warfare is the best-selling premium game of 2019, Activision says.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been a critical success, and now we know it has been a commercial one too. Publisher Activision says the game is the “top-selling new premium game release of 2019”.

In addition, the company states the game is the “No. 1 top-selling Call of Duty PC launch ever” and “established a new record as the No.1 top-selling digital opening in Activision history”. The game made over $600 million in its first three days, the company says.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said: “Call of Duty is once again the top-selling new premium game of the year, proving the enduring nature of the franchise across console, PC, mobile, and esports. In its first three days of release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare more than doubled the box office opening of Joker.”

Activision president Rob Kostich, meanwhile, stated: “Through the first three days, Modern Warfare has more total players and total hours played than any Call of Duty opening release in the last six years. More importantly, our players are having a great time playing”

While the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare scores back that up, some players have experienced some issues, such as poorly positioned respawn locations. Despite that, our reviewer enjoyed the game, awarding it an 8/10.

“If Black Ops 4’s lack of single-player sidelined you last year then Modern Warfare’s superfluous modes do little to tarnish one of the best campaigns in the history of the series,” writes Jordan Forward in our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review. “And while not every mode works (yet), multiplayer offers the same addictive class progression and laser-precise gunplay for which CoD is known, this time with a more measured pace that rewards patience and tactical nous over twitch gunskill.”
