Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s spawns seem pretty broken

COD: MW players have experienced some unfortunate respawns - take a look.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has launched to a positive critical reception, but that doesn’t mean everything is perfect. As is often the case with multiplayer shooter launches, many players are reporting issues with respawns.

Matches are plagued with problems such as respawning directly in front of opponents, some players say. Our own reviewer has experienced spawn locations not flipping – or flipping too often – meaning players are getting killed very quickly after coming back to life.

As the below videos show, some of these issues are stark, and The Internet isn’t happy about it – the game’s feedback thread on Reddit is full of unhappy players giving their respawning horror stories. Developer Infinity Ward has not yet addressed the complaints. Despite these sticking points, the shooter has, at this early stage, been a critical and commercial success.

Its launch outsold that of the series’ previous title, Black Ops 4, while our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare score roundup shows some of the impressive scores the latest game has received.

“If Black Ops 4’s lack of single-player sidelined you last year then Modern Warfare’s superfluous modes do little to tarnish one of the best campaigns in the history of the series,” writes our critic, Jordan Forward, in our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review.

The worst spawns I’ve seen in all my years of playing CoD. The last death made my jaw drop. from r/modernwarfare

“And while not every mode works (yet),multiplayer offers the same addictive class progression and laser-precise gunplay for which CoD is known, this time with a more measured pace that rewards patience and tactical nous over twitch gunskill.”
