A Counter Strike: Global Offensive player has set up a CS:GO charity tournament to raise money for, and awareness of, mental health conditions.
Here our list of the greatest FPSs out there.
“On the 14th June I had the worse day of my life, I lost one of my best friends and ex-teammates ‘Wilde’ to depression at 15 years old,” writes Vorlex in an emotional post on Reddit. “This day I lost my mind, I couldn’t do anything or really speak to anyone about anything and I didn’t sleep all night I wished it was all a dream, something I had thought of and if I just went online and called him he would pick up, over and over I left messages.
“The next day I came more to my senses and knew I had to spread awareness for Mental Health and make sure people remembered him.”
To celebrate the life of his friend, Vorlex made a post about Wilde’sYouTube videosand had so many views and upvotes, he decided to take it further and set up a charity tournament.
Despite an initial lack of momentum, the European tournament’s now full with over 20 teams signed up to participate, and Vorlex has plans to set up a North American equivalent, too.
Recent research by the University of Montréal suggestsshooters and other action games may harm the brain, putting players at greater risk of mental health and neurological problems such as Alzheimer’s, post-traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia.
