Dark Souls 2 DLC will have a challenge route for the masochists among you

Dark Souls 2 Crown of the Sunken King The Three Crowns e3 2014 From Software

Last week From Software revealed that they were working on The Lost Crowns trilogy, a three pack of DLCs to expand Dark Souls 2. If they’re as good as our Dark Souls 2 review suggests, we’re in the for a treat. The first release, Crown of the Sunken King, which is due out on 27 July, has had a few details shed on it by global producer Atsuo Yoshimura.

The Crown of the Sunken King story will take you deep under the castle of the main game, into a poison moss-filled cavern. Yoshimura says “it will be more difficult than all the stages available in the main game.” For a game that prides itself on its difficulty, that was to be expected.

There will be new enemies, weapons, and items but “the stage itself is something players need to conquer.” It’s filled with “gimmicks” that you will need to learn to avoid, traps and mechanisms that will keep you on your toes.

“In addition to the main route there will be a challenging route,” said Yoshimura. “The challenging route is much more difficult. Players can play alone but we’re expecting players to summon other players to conquer the challenge route.”

The first part of the trilogy will be out on 27 July. Following The Sunken King is Crown of the Old Iron King on 26 August and Crown of the Ivory King on 23 September.

Cheers, PC Gamer.
