Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is both called that and out on October 25

Darksiders remake

“Warmastered Edition.” Okay Nordic Games. Okay. The Darksiders remaster, following on from Darksiders 2’s Deathinitive Edition copy-editing nightmare, is coming in October. It features 4K support on PC, along with a host of other video options, and will hit 60 FPS if your PC can manage it. It’s developed by KAIKO, the same squad that made the Darksiders 2 remaster and have worked on other Nordic Games projects.

Here’s the full feature list for the update:

  • 4k & 1080p support and additional video options for PC
  • Doubled all the texture resolutions
  • Rendering improvements and rework
  • Better shadow rendering quality
  • Post processing effects
  • 60 FPS in moment to moment gameplay

Hooray for new consoles and the need for old games to look new again. Darksiders is one of my favourite late-00s (original release January 5, 2010, give me a break) 8/10 games. It’s metal as hell, fun, fast, and manages to do Zelda-but-a-bit-more-grown-up better than anything I’ve seen since. It’s not exactly Dark Souls, but it does at least run on a PC. Plus, the art design is properly amazing.

There’s no trailer for the updated version, or any comparison shots as of yet. Here’s how it played in 2010, since none of the trailers from back then have any gameplay in them (incidentally, THQ went out of business three years later – coincidence?!):

It even features the voice talents of Mark Hamill in full Joker-like mode. He’s very good, even if War himself is a little over-serious. Then again, he’s literally the incarnation of War.
